In urban areas, where cyclists and pedestrians are common road-users, spreading of a salt (NaCl) solution is the most environmentally friendly type of slippery roads prevention, as liquid spreading reduces the salt consumption considerably. Pedestrians and cyclists are the so-called “weak” road-users in the winter time. Spreading of a dry material creates a slippery ground surface for these road users, until the material has worked its way into the frozen surface. If liquid is spread, a quick thawing effect and thus better friction for the “weak” road-users is achieved. The liquid is distributed evenly and works its way through the frozen surface.
