Earlier this year I had a unique locate demo for a landfill in the Portland Metro area. The customer was trying to locate a 2000’ run of 8″ HDPE pressure line, but conventional locating wouldn’t work because the pipe didn’t have any metallic value to induce a current.
We used a 500’ 7/16″ Jameson Duct Hunter reel and direct connected my vLoc Pro2 – 5 watt transmitter to it and lit up the duct rod. Since the run was longer then the duct rod, we located it out 500’ then used a backhoe to dig up to that point then drilled a hole and reintroduced the duct rod. We repeated the process until we had located the entire line.
By using the Jameson Duct Hunter rod we saved the customer from having to dig up the entire line and spending thousands of dollars. When it was all said and done he had a total of four holes he needed to back fill. This tool came in very handy and displayed its feature function benefit in the demo.
